What is the difference between step, event and repeat campaigns?

The main difference between these campaigns lies in how they are scheduled.

Step campaigns rely on 'steps' between each email send.

  • Day 0 means it will send instantly, so it will send as soon as you enroll a contact into that campaign, or when your lead submits the form (if elected to do so).
  • Day 2 means that it will send 2 days after their initial enrollment.
  • Day 4 means that it will send 4 days after their initial enrollment.
  • You choose how many days between each email send. All non-zero days will allow you to select the time that the email should send. Use Step campaigns if you want to continue re-using this campaign.

Event campaigns are relative to the event date you select. You can then choose the type of scheduling you want to use for the Event:

  • Calendar date which lets you decide the exact date that the email should send, or
  • Relative date which lets you choose how many days before/after the event the emails should send.
  • If you need full control of what days the email should send before and after the Event, choose Calendar date.
If you want your emails to simply send a certain number of days before (e.g., 10 days before, 5 days before) and a certain number of days after (e.g. 1 day after the Event date), use Relative date.
Note that Event campaigns will expire once the last email of the Event campaign is sent.

Repeat campaigns allow you to set a campaign to repeat either weekly, monthly or yearly. You'll be prompted to choose how many times the campaign should repeat. Enter any integer and the campaign will repeat that many times, or you can choose to repeat forever.

  • Weekly allows you to choose what day of the week and at what time the campaign should send.
  • Monthly allows you to choose what day of the month and at what time the campaign should send.
  • Yearly allows you to choose what day of the year and at what time the campaign should send.
